The Problem

Extreme poverty creates desperate situations that lead to desperate decisions, like trafficking and early marriage, in order to survive. Nobody in Uganda has been affected by this reality more than young girls.

WHAT IS EXTREME POVERTY? The most severe type of poverty that’s considered impossible to escape without external help. It’s a condition that creates a vicious cycle characterized by the extreme deprivation of basic human needs like food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, healthcare, shelter and education.

6.87 MILLION UGANDAN CHILDREN LIVE IN EXTREME POVERTY. That’s equivalent to the number of children currently living in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky COMBINED.

The Solution

Kipindi Mpito (Swahili for “Transition Period”) is FCW’s flagship ministry, and our answer for a successful transition into adulthood. The tragedies endured by these young ladies have created issues too complex to fix by meeting just their physical needs. In order for true life change to occur, healing needs to take place from the inside out. Kipindi Mpito is a one-year program that’s built on seven pillars that were intentionally created with this complete process in mind: spiritual health/discipleship, mental/emotional health, self-sufficiency, relational health, 12 key life-skills, leadership development, and discover paths to meaningful employment.

Kipindi Mpito allows young ladies in Uganda to understand that their identity and self-worth are not defined by any pain from their past, but by a God who is crazy about them! Completing the program not only allows students to transition into adulthood successfully, it also sets them up to become world changers in a country that desperately needs the leadership of courageous women.

The Vision

Exciting expansion plans are on the horizon for the Kipindi Mpito campus. The second girl’s  residence is currently being used as the “vocational training space.” In the coming years, we strive to TRIPLE our female student enrollment by building a girl’s vocational center & third girl’s home.

Once we have reached our capacity of 48 girls, we plan to launch a boys’ campus and curriculum that will be tailored to their unique needs, with vocational training programs focused on welding, auto mechanics, and agriculture - skills directly linked to local job opportunities. While we were strategic with why we started with females, we certainly recognize the need for strong, Godly men in their culture.

Community Outreach

Community outreach is a high priority at Kipindi. FCW added an access road that provides a safer and more efficient option for the surrounding community. We also installed a water spigot outside the walls of Kipindi to provide nearby villagers easy access to clean water without having to travel several miles. Future medical and dental check-ups will be provided on campus for children and families as well as training seminars to educate caregivers on the topics of: trauma care, parenting, farming, and best business practices. We will also teach skilled trades to help set their families up financially. Kipindi allows us to share the love of Jesus with everyone in the community, whether they choose to step foot on campus or not.
